Presenter: Andrew Smith (Assistant Professor of Bioengineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA)

Topic: Quantitative Molecular Imaging with Quantum Dots

Time: 10:00 AM, Jun. 23rd (Friday)

Location: 910-308

Abstract

The major goal of the Smith Lab is to engineer light-emitting nanoparticles for imaging molecules, cells, and tissues. Our lab has recently made advances in developing fluorescent quantum dots as point sources of light that allow quantitative molecular analysis of biological specimens. We are using these new emitters to count and observe intracellular and plasma membrane proteins in living cells, to absolutely measure disease-associated molecules in clinical biospecimens, and to inform the development of new therapeutic modalities for cancer, Alzheimer’s, and obesity.
