报告摘要:
The polymer group at RCSI has a long history in the development and application of polymeric soft materials for life science applications. While the group’s activities are polymer chemistry centred most are application informed and carried out in multidisciplinary teams within RCSI and beyond. The group has established an extended network of international academic and industrial collaborators. This presentation will give an overview on some of the group’s activities. One class of materials extensively researched in the group is polypeptides obtained by the ring-opening polymerisation of amino acid N-carboxyanhydrides (NCA). Polypeptides are biocompatible, biodegradable and functional and therefore ideal materials for biomedical applications. In the first part of the seminar, Prof. Heise will introduce this class of polymers and provide an insight into different approaches to formulate polypeptides into nanoparticles suitable for gene or drug delivery. In the second part Dr. Murphy will introduce our recent work on 3D printing of polypeptides. In the final part, Dr. Chiaradia will discuss efforts in advanced 3D printing of polymeric structures from renewable resources.
个人简介 :
Professor Andreas Heise is heading the Polymer Chemistry and Biopolymer group in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). Over the last number of years, he has established a critical mass of polymer and functional soft material expertise in Ireland.Prof Heise has received his PhD in polymer chemistry at the Leibnitz University of Hannover, Germany. He then spent 6 months at the Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz after which he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the German Science Foundation for a 2-year project at the IBM Almaden Research Centre and Stanford University in the USA working on polymers for electronic applications. Upon his return to Europe, he accepted an industrial position at DSM Research in The Netherlands leading activities in enzymatic polymerisation. During that period, he held a part time academic position at the Eindhoven University of Technology where he led a research group on polypeptide and renewable polyester materials. In 2008, he was awarded a prestigious Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Stoke Lectureship, establishing the first polymer group in Ireland at Dublin City University (DCU). In 2015, Prof. Heise was offered a Professorship under the Strategic Academic Recruitment Programme (STAR) at RCSI, which he accepted. To date Prof Heise has won several awards including the DCU President’s Research Award and the RCSI CEO Innovation Award. Prof. Heise has published over 220 papers and coordinated several bids for large international research consortia.
