Abstract:

Organometal halide perovskite solar cells bring a very competitive and fascinating prospect on solution-processable photovoltaic devices by their unimaginable efficiency racing. However, the fain utilization of lead in the materials will cause inevitable toxicology issue to the environment. Seeking new non-toxic materials to substitute lead is an important and urgent task. Here we propose and investigate an alternative organic-inorganic perovskite, CH3NH3Pb1-aInaI3Cla, where part of lead (II) is substituted by Indium (III). Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction reveals that the perovskite films exhibit multiple ordered crystal orientations, which lead to substantially improved power conversion efficiency of 17.55% in a planar heterojunction device compared with 12.61% in a pure-lead based control device. This work demonstrates the possibility to substitute lead (II) in organometal halide perovskites by Indium (III) besides Tin (II). The finding promotes the lead substitution to explore new alloy perovskite systems and paves one way to tune the crystallization kinetics of organometal halide perovskites for enhanced photovoltaic devices.
