Abstract::

This presentation explores the synthesis, characterization, and diverse applications of multifunctional quantum dots (QDs), nanostructures, and nanocomposites. Due to their unique size-dependent optical and electronic properties, these nanomaterials have emerged as pivotal components in advancing modern technology.

The core of this lecture focuses on developing facile, scalable, and cost-effective fabrication protocols that ensure high-quality yields without requiring complex infrastructure. The discussion encompasses various bottom-up approaches, including chemical co-precipitation, sol-gel processing, and electrodeposition, highlighting critical parameters for controlling particle size, and structural integrity.

To validate the efficacy of the fabricated materials, the presentation details rigorous characterization frameworks used to correlate physical and chemical properties with performance. The lecture concludes by illustrating the strategic deployment of these tailored nanomaterials across diverse sectors, ranging from optoelectronics to biomedical engineering.

Biography:

Prof. El-Shaer’s international career began in early 2003 as a researcher at the Department of Semiconductors at Ulm University, Germany. Shortly after, in 2004, he joined the Institute of Semiconductor Technology at the Technical University of Braunschweig (TU Braunschweig). His research focused on the growth and characterization of Zinc Oxide (ZnO) layers using Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) that culminated in him earning his Ph.D. (Dr. Ing.) in July 2008.

Between 2009 and 2011, he attended as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Bremen, Germany, specializing in nanowire synthesis for advanced LEDs and solar cell applications. His commitment to international collaboration saw him return to TU Braunschweig in 2016 to conduct high-level research on advanced semiconductor technologies for photovoltaic applications.

Parallel to his international success, prof. El-Shaer has been a cornerstone of the Faculty of Science at Kafrelsheikh University, Egypt. Since 2011, he has progressed through the academic ranks from Lecturer to Associate Professor, ultimately achieving the rank of Full Professor and becoming the Head of the Physics Department in 2020.

Recognized for his administrative expertise and academic vision, he has served as the Vice-Dean for Education and Student Affairs since 2021. In this role, he continues to lead educational development while supervising cutting-edge research in nanostructures and renewable energy materials.
